Erika Emerén (b.1990) is a Swedish artist based in Stockholm.

Her work interprets the physicality of desire, cravings, and attraction. Erika’s process combines ceramic, textile, and text as an exploration of color, texture, pattern, and words. The layering of her work creates an expansive scenography of playful forms with subtly unsettling details.

Inspired by the inherently appetizing aspects of confectionary, the sensuality of the human body, and the romance of nature, Erika’s work also presents a menacing side to beauty:
Her unassumingly ornate sculptures are undoubtedly erect and dripping with the expulsion of glaze, the stiff and plushy textile forms are suffocating in their repetition, and frighteningly exaggerated in their movements and proportions. Erika’s world fluctuates between gentle and carnal.

There is a disarming character to her work, as Erika believes is the nature of human desire. She doesn’t aim to portray lust in all its simplicity and naïvety but rather celebrates it fully with all its fleshy disappointments.
